By making fine adjustments to the EFI strategy - particularly to the injection timing settings, significant gains are made with Dtronic across the entire RPM range. Right from 1,000 rpm, Dtronic boosts the engine torque by an outstanding 20% - and at only 1200 - 1300 RPM, the Dtronic enhanced Patrol produces more torque than the standard engine's peak output.
When the going gets tough, Dtronic delivers more. As can be seen from the table below, Dtronic provides an additional 66 Nm of torque at 2,000 RPM for an outstanding total of 420 Nm and an equally impressive boost of 17 kW at 3,600 RPM for a peak power figure of 133 kW.
In order to produce these outstanding results, accurate injection timing control through the Dtronic computer is an essential function. Accurate injection timing control is also critical not only for the best possible fuel consumption, but also to control peak exhaust gas temperatures for optimum durability. The Dtronic computer can be simply unplugged at any time - thus returning the vehicle back to factory ECU control. With already impressive performance in standard form, the Nissan 3.0L Patrol can at times be lacking in low RPM punch. When heavily loaded or towing, the lack of torque is even more pronounced - necessitating higher engine revs in a lower gear - and poor fuel economy.
