MITSUBISHI TRITON 4D-56 DIESEL (2.5L) MH SERIES 1990 ONWARDS 4D-56 TURBO DIESEL (2.5L)
Fitment to: Right hand side

Fitting time: Approximately 90 minutes (Flared model add 30min)

Special Tools:

  • 86mm holesaw
  • Pop rivet gun
  • Tin snips
  • Air Hacksaw
1 Remove:
  • Left hand front wheel arch liner.
  • Air cleaner assembly.
  • The flare (if applicable).
2 Tape the larger template on the upper rear corner of the guard. Mark the hole positions using a felt pen. Use the smaller template to mark the inner hole position. The long edge sits against the top edge of the inner guard. The shortest edge should be against the headlight support panel. On later model vehicles, this hole may coincide with a factory hole. If this is the case, cut the remaineder of the hole using an air hacksaw.
3 After drilling a pilot hole for each position, drill the mounting holes to 16mm using a stepdrill. The main outer hole should be drilled using an 86mm holesaw. The drill should be held horizontal (parallel to the ground) while cutting this hole. Deburr all holes to leave a smooth edge.
4 Bolt the upper mounting bracket to the snorkel body. Insert the studs into the upper 3 mounting holes in the back of the snorkel body. Sit the snorkel in position on the vehicle and mark the upper mounting holes on the "A" pillar. Remove the snorkel body. Drill the 3 mounting holes to 8mm (drill through the reinforcing panel to allow depth for the body clips).
5 Paint all holes to prevent rust.
6 Insert a ring of rubber edging around the inner hole. Insert the plastic body clips into the upper bracket holes. Position the snorkel on the vehicle and secure with appropriate hardware.
7 Using tin snips, neatly remove the tag from below the air cleaner snout on the air cleaner body. Position the adapter casting on the snorkel snout. Refit the air cleaner to the vehicle. Hold the adapter casting in position and mark the rivet and screw hole positions. Remove the air cleaner and adapter casting.
8 Drill a 4mm hole for each of the mounting hole positions on the adapter casting (3 at each end). Apply a generous bead of silicone to the inside edge at each end of the casting. Reposition the casting and air cleaner assembly in the vehicle. Secure the air cleaner using the appropriate bolts.
9 Drill 3, 4mm holes in the snorkel snout to match the casting and fasten the two together using 4mm pop rivets. Repeat with the other end of the casting and the air cleaner snout. Smear any excess silicone to leave a neat finish. If necessary, add more silicone to the joins to ensure a waterproof seal.
10 If applicable refit the flare. To do this you will need to shave the top edge of the flare to allow clearance for the snorkel.
11 Refit the wheelarch liner and fit the air ram to the top of the snorkel.
WARNING: IT IS THE INSTALLERS RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE ALL CONNECTIONS ARE WATER TIGHT.
