- Ducting between air cleaner the turbo.
- Left hand front wheel arch liner.

Tape the template (item 31) in position on the upper rear corner of the guard. Using a felt tip pen, mark the hole positions then remove the template. |
3
Drill a 4mm pilot hole for each of the holes. Open the 5 mounting holes out to16mm using a step drill. Open the front hole to 6mm, dropping the drill to a horizontal position whilst drilling. This will allow the hole saw to be used at the correct angle. Then using an 89mm hole saw with a 150mm long arbour bit, cut the main hole. The hole saw should be positioned horizontally while cutting and the lower edge of the hole should be approximately 18mm away from the outer guard fold. The hole saw will bottom out while cutting this hole, so you will need to stop and trim some metal out of the centre of the hole using tin snips. This will then allow you to finish cutting the hole easily. After drilling and cutting, deburr all the holes to leave a smooth edge. |

Screw the four stainless steel mounting studs (item 4) into the relevant hole in the back of the Snorkel (item 1). Fasten the upper mounting bracket (item 3) to the Snorkel body using two 6mm bolts (item 9). Sit the Snorkel in position on the car and mark the 3 upper mounting holes on the "A" pillar. |
5
Remove the Snorkel and drill the 3 holes to 8mm. Paint both the upper and lower holes with appropriate paint to prevent rust. Insert the plastic body clips into the upper holes (item 16). |
6
Place the Snorkel in position on the vehicle and secure using appropriate hardware (items 5, 6, 7, 8). For best results, tighten the lower mounting positions before securing the upper mounting screws. Position the air ram on top of the Snorkel and secure the clamp (item 2). |
7
Position the air cleaner mounting template (item 30) on the inner guard. The small hole and 2 of the larger holes in the template should line up with existing holes on the vehicle. The other hole will have to be marked. The holes lining up with the large template holes and the new hole will have to be drilled to 16mm. Deburr the large holes and paint to prevent rust. |
8
Bolt the vacuum solenoid to the vacuum solenoid bracket using 6mm x 16mm bolts, washers and nyloc nuts (items 10, 12, 14). Bolt the solenoid bracket into position on the inner guard, behind the left headlight, using 6mm x 16mm bolts and washers into existing captive nuts (items 10, 12, 13). |
9
Unbolt the earth strap from the inner guard. Position the air cleaner support bracket (item 22) and re-fasten the earth strap. Re-route the small vacuum lines between the body and the air cleaner mounting bracket. |
10
Using a 24mm spanner, loosen the large banjo bolt on the vacuum pump and rotate it downwards to be parallel with the air conditioning hose. Rotate the other end of the rubber hose on the steel line towards the bodywork, to allow clearance for the air entry duct. Remove the engine breather hose and replace it with the Safari supplied breather (item 27) using the original clamps. On late model vehicles with the vacuum pump on the rocker cover, the Safari breather hose will have to be cut and joined onto the original breather hose using 5/8" joiner (item 33) and clamps (item 32) as shown in the inset diagram. |
11
Slide the compressor air entry duct (item 28) onto the turbo snout and secure using a 50/70 clamp (item 19). Slide a 70/90 clamp (item 17) onto the other end of the air entry duct, then insert the steel joiner (item 24). The large barb should point towards the breather hose and the small barb should point between the air conditioning hose and the bodywork. Secure the joiner in place with the 70/90 clamp. Join and secure the engine breather to the large barb. Remove the plastic joiner from the end of the loose vacuum hose and join that hose to the small barb. |
12
Push the 82mm cuffed hose (item 26) through the hole in the corner of the engine bay and onto the Snorkel snout. Secure with a 70/90 clamp (item 17) then re-fit the guard liner. Ensure the hose clamp is located on the Snorkel snout prior to installing the cuffed hose, as once in position, this duct cannot easily be removed. |
13
Remove the air cleaner lid, vacuum line clips and filter element from the original air cleaner assembly. Carefully remove and discard the mounting tags from the lid by grinding away the spot welds. Paint the bare metal areas on the lid to prevent rust. Remove the original seal and replace with the Safari supplied part (item 29), using silicone (or similar) to glue in place. |
NB
It is the installers responsibility to verify water sealing of the Air Cleaner assembly. Safari recommends testing by immersion in water of the completed assembly. |
14
Install studs (item nos. 4 and 11) to air cleaner using Loctite to secure into place. Assemble the new air cleaner assembly with filter element and lid in place. Locate the air cleaner lid clamp ring (item 21) over the lid and fasten using necessary hardware (item nos. 36, 13 and 34). |
15
Install air cleaner assembly into vehicle and fasten using necessary hardware (refer drawing). Connect the 82mm cuffed hose (item 26) to air cleaner snout and fasten using hose clamp (item 17). |
16
Join the air cleaner to the steel joiner using the 70mm cuffed hose (item 25) and 2, 60/80 clamps (item 18). Ensure the air cleaner does not rub on the overflow bottle. Adjust if necessary. Use the original vacuum line clips to neatly mount the vacuum lines in place. |
| WARNING: IT IS THE INSTALLERS RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE ALL CONNECTIONS ARE WATER TIGHT. |
